A) Let's get something straight here. Menopause is not a process. Menopause is the cessation of the menstrual cycle, and can only be identified in retrospect, as in, it's been a year with no periods and no spotting, that must have been menopause. Perimenopause is a process, and it generally begins in the early 30's. That's why fertility rates begin to decline in the early 30's. You haven't talked about soy in your diet, and that would help. Other than that, talk with your doctor. Or, just get used to the idea that this is a normal part of life, just as is menarche, menstruation, childbirth and death.

pregnant , ectopic pregnancy, early menopause?

Q) If i said the following, would you think pregnant, early menopause or something else? Firstly a little background Female sterilised several years ago.. 3 negative IVF cycles in the last 2 years last one was over 12 months ago.... mild sufferer of IBS but mostly able to control it.. current symptoms: late period approx 5/7 days late short period approx 4/5 days most days light period feeling sick but not sick, headaches on and off, slight dizzy spells even when im just sitting down, seem to be eating ALOT pains in tummy on and off, dull ache, sharp stabbing but not painful on both sides of tummy (similar to period pains but not the same), hot flush a few nights recently, previous to this feeling cold like i was going to get a flu, total exhaustion, sleeping ok... could it be something like ulcer in the stomach? or what? I just dont know. pregnancy test negative.....

A) you sound extremely run down i would definately consult your doctor tell them exactly what you have told us good luck

could this be the menopause?

Q) i was due my monthlys on the 14th feb and had spotting on the 13th its now 41 days and still no period should i be worried i have no symptoms of early menopause im 44

A) I started menopause at 39, could be the start of it for you, dont be worrying, no big deal if you dont let it be, your Doc could maybe check your hormone levels, although may be to early in the whole affair to tell much, research into all that is on offer for you if you are menopausal, good to be aware of all treatments, issues etc.surrounding this rather liberating time of life. GO GIRL !

Early Menopause?

Q) I'm 30. For the last year, my monthly cycle went from 29 days, to 38 days. My doctor says my hormone levels are normal, and can't explain why this could happen. I have read, that longer cycles are a symptom of early menopause? I don't plan on having any other children.

A) Your hormones levels are just fine, so do not worry. Irregular menses are due to different reasons: example - a lot of stress, excess exercising specifically jogging. (29 to 38days is nothing to worry). I think you need to believe your doctor. If you are this worry about it definitely is stress that is causing your irregular cycles. You do not have early menopause. I have 2 sisters who are very regular (all their life), they are older than me. I am 43 years old and used to be very irregular all the time (periods 40-60 days and sometimes every 3 months) I got my 1st period at age 13 (just pink stain) than no period at all until I turn 15 years old. I never took anything to become regular, it just happened over time, not to long ago. (I can still get pregnant). I have never had any infertility problems. My 2nd and 3rd kids were planned. I know my body so well that I know which ovary releases an egg (I feel it), I know when I am ovulating, but i have done extensive reading (different books). My suggestion: If you do not believe your doctor or me that you are not menopause and when you do is very natural, I suggest you read different books and you will find out that you need a combination of symptoms in order to be on "early menopause", and your blood work will indicate such. Every woman is different. Just be happy and enjoy being a Female (every age has its blessings).

Has anyone ever had disorientation as a symptom of early menopause?

A) Disorientation is more a sign of a stroke. Get a physical now!

Early menopause symptoms?

Q) Please, I'd like answers from people who experienced this as opposed to cut and paste from medical sites :) I have an appt with the doctor soon, but I am fairly sure this is what's going on (my mother, grandmother and great aunt all experienced it around 40-41 and I am 37). My question deals with some of the symptoms...did your hot flashes usually occur shortly before periods? Also, with hair loss...how bad was it and how much? I seem to be having the same kind of amount that I did after my son was born, but I am wondering how long that lasts and how much actually comes out!

A) The difficulty with this questions is that it varies for everyone, both the symptoms and severity. Hot flashes start out typically here and there, and then become more constant. Hair thinning and loss does not happen with everyone, and is sometimes a symptom to something else happening. I'd recommend talking to your doctor and having a blood work up done.

Early menopause?

Q) I have been reading on the internet about some of the symptom's I have been haveing (irratable, longer then normal cycles, insomnia, etc) and what I have found is a lot of them are contributed to pre menopause, however I am only 25. Anyone ever heard of going through menopause so early? No I have no knowen family history of it. My mother is almost 50 with no signs of menopause.

A) Yes, although it is rare, women do sometimes go through premature menopause in their 20's. Don't panic, there could be a host of other reasons for your problems. You could go to your gynecologist and have your FSH levels checked to make sure.

Early Menopause?

Q) Ok, serious answers only please as I'm really worried. I'm in my late 30's - physically fit and of low/average weight for my height. My menstrual cycle is normally fairly regular (26-28 days) but over the last 6 weeks I have had 3 periods! Normal cramps and the period is lasting approx 4 days. I feel fine, not tired or anything, but I would appreciate any women who have had similar symptoms to confirm that all is normal. Can't believe the menopause is coming this early and am slightly depressed about it - If it is the menopause. I will of course go to my doctor, I'd just appreciate your opinions/experience on this. Hey Coookies - No I'll listen to anyone who's obviously constructive and intelligent (as you seem to be) I'm just worried it's some kind of cancer (I'm sure you realised that)

A) My SIL, her sisters and her mother all started going through the change when they were in their early 30s. You probably are going through the change which happens to many women when they are in their 30s. Although we've been taught it comes later in life, and for the majority of women it does, many get an early start. It is called premature menopause. You may have endometriosis which will cause sudden changes in your period like this. You could also have polyps or benign tumors which can cause the system to go haywire but only your doctor can really tell you what is causing this. I had a benign tumor that caused serious problems for me each month. I went to the doctor in Feb and had an ultra sound and she said the tumor was about 8 lbs. By the time I was able to get in and have it removed the end of June, it was 15 lbs and thankfully, it was benign. My mother started going through the change when she was in her late 40s and once her period started, she didn't think she was ever going to stop. She would go 2 or 3 weeks at a time, stop for a couple of days and start all over again for another 2 or 3 weeks. Finally, one day, it all stopped on it's own. One thing you will want to start checking into now is hair loss that comes with menopause. I used to have such pretty hair but it has thinned out drastically, especially the last 5 years. I just went to my family doctor and talked with her about thyroid medication (after studying up on things on the net) because most women around 50 have hypothyroidism so that is something to study up on now so you can hopefully prevent hair loss problems. I'm now on on a low dose of synthroid but am checking into dietary ways to help keep the thyroid healthy. Check out this site to get ideas on how to keep the thyroid healthier. http://standing1.home.mindspring.com/thyroid/goodfood.html Wishing you well......

Early Menopause?

Q) I'm concerned, I read a 35 checkpoint test online and though a lot of the questions could relate to anyone, I seemed to have most in common. I'm 36, and my mother went through it before she was 40. I know, I need to see a Dr. If you've gone through this, what were your symptoms, how did you deal with them, and all of that other good stuff.

A) The very best thing you can do is eat very very healthy. It is so important all of our lives but even more so during menopause. I went into surgical menopause at 30. Eat your fruits and vegetables, stay away from processed sugar and caffein, don't smoke and make sure your taking time in your life for things that make you happy. Be careful of hormone products in the stores. Not all of the ingredience in them are good for you. Trust me, I've tried them and they can be just as dangerous as HRT. I was on them for years and started having seizures from Premarin.Your mental state is as important as your physical state. During menopause your body can start to act so differently, recognize the things that stress you out and learn to deal with them in a positive way because with your body is already going thru hormonal changes, you really don't want to end up with a lot of stress hormones as well. It can really throw your emotions out of wack. Be good to yourself, just as you would to family and friends. Eat right and be happy!

My wife is starting to have early symptoms of menopause. What do I need to understand about how she feels?

Q) Both physically and emotionally.

A) I am in the same boat as your wife. The first thing she needs to do is discuss it with her doctor to get something for relief of the symptoms. Be prepared to wear your flannel pajamas, she'll want the A/C so cold it'll freeze you out. Night sweats are a bummer! Little things will irritate her but she won't know why, try to be patient , we really don't know. Be prepared it can last for years. The hot flashes come and go all day. I am constantly turning on the fan in my office then turning it off. It is said they last from 3 seconds to 3 minutes. Not fun. If she just wants some alone time give her space. Sometimes I just want to be alone, to do nothing, I just feel like I am on overload and neeed to shut down a while. Sex hasn't been a problem but the doctor will tell her that sometimes dryness can occur have some lubricant ready in case. Good luck to you and to her and a kudos for wanting to understand her.

My Dr. has prescribed me a menopace and pyricontin tablets alongwith normal calcium tablets on a trial basis she told me to do Hormones test during my next cycle but now my problem is that i dont feel like having sex and so feeling guilty for my partner when we try i cannot concentrate fully on it and donot enjoy it too because i dont feel excited and if feel it pains slightly from inside at one spot i dont know what it is but the pain is not very much but i feel something from inside which makes me more frustated. I usually decide that today i will support him but after going on to bed nothing makes me feel good. What should i do should i go to some sex therepesit or Gyno. Please help me with some natural intakes if any.

A) Is the doctor that prescribed the meds a gynecologist? If so, go back to her and tell her what you are feeling. Maybe the meds are not working for your body chemistry. There may be other things to try. Make a list of all the things that you feel have changed and any questions you may have. Take the list with you when you go to the doctor's office.
